Punjab Police: Past, Present and Prospect

The
Punjab Police, a law enforcing outfit, is
entrusted with responsibility
of policing in Punjab. The fact that Punjab Police has a history of both- valour,
gallantry and glory as well as criticism and vilification, evokes a meaningful
concern, hence it calls for an investigation into the stages of its evolution.
The present work is an endeavour to trace the origin of Punjab Police with an
incisive and insightful approach towards its past, present and future. The diligent
efforts have made to analyze governing acts & rules of Punjab Police
covering its nature and functioning. This study aims to establish the relevance
of research in enhancing the performance of Punjab police as an effective pillar
of executive machinery of state by bringing out suggestive measures for its
optimum utilization.
This book is
largely a post doctoral study, taken by the author in form a Major Research
Project approved and sanction by University Grants Commission (2013-2015). In
fact, the author also covered the later developments to update the study.
This book is
the result of painstaking empirical & theoretical research of almost twelve
years involving a huge amount of field work, including meetings and interviews
(formal as well as informal), even telephonic conversations with more than a
hundred persons from various segments of our society either involved in the
policing or affected by the policing.
